Alfie Burden currently ranked 53 in the world rankings had his first defeat of the season so hopefully he can
continue his good run and move up the rankings with the new system.

Alfie Burden, who lives in Welwyn Garden City, was beaten 4-3 in the first Players Tour Championship of the term.

Jones had taken a 2-1 lead with a century break in the third frame.

However, Burden won the next two edging ahead 3-2, but Jones took the match to 3-3 with the seventh, and deciding frame, also going his way.

Earlier in the day, Burden had defeated Nikolai Vlashev 4-2 in the second round.

Burden’s fine start to the season had seen him successfully qualify for both the Wuxi Classic in China and the Australian Open.

The 36-year-old will head to China next week for an Asian Tour event ahead of the Wuxi Classic which begins on Monday, June 17.
